Went to 3 work boot stores that took my work vouture and all 3 were pretty bad in customer service. But when I told the lady at the red wing store I will just buy them from the next boot vendor that comes to work and got an " ok " I figured someone would want to know to avoid the hassle and just buy your boots online. Way easier...don't have to drive around... don't have to deal with poor customer service these days...and free returns if they don't fit. And the last funny thing is I usually shop places by review and won't go somewhere with a low score but figured it's been awhile I'll give it a shot, the poor reviews hold up on this one.
I've been considering purchasing my first pair of RedWings for a while now, so needless to say, I was excited. I live in Iowa City and there isn't a local store. So, I drove almost an hour each way to specifically go to this store. I've been planning to do it for a while and today was finally the day. I even managed to move some stuff around at work do I could cut out early and go get these boots.
Very boring
Even though I was a little taken aback, I told him that I was in the market for my first pair of RedWings, mostly for work, and began describing to him what my working conditions were and how I was looking for a specific boot to cater to that. In the middle of that, he cut me off, asked me how long I was planning on being in there, and told me that they were "short staffed", & he needed to close the store in order to run to the bank and make a deposit. So, I explained to him that I had come from Iowa City, specifically to purchase a pair of boots. It was then that he told me "it would only take him about 45 minutes and I was welcome to wait outside while he ran this errand or come back later."
I'm super bummed about this! I have been wanting and saving up for a pair of RedWing boots for a while now, and I cleared my whole evening to make the two hour round-trip to this store specifically, just to be turned away. It almost makes me want to give up on trying to purchase the boots altogether. But I guess I'll have to wait for another day where I can clear a time slot in my extremely busy schedule and see if the store in Cedar Rapids treats their customers any better.
Now, I am a small business owner; I actually own and operate three separate small businesses. I cannot wrap my head around how getting to the bank and making a deposit is more important than treating a customer with respect and making a sale?! If one of my employees from any of my businesses had done this to a customer, they would at least be written up, if not even fired! Shortstaffed or not.
When I walked into the store, the clerk was helping someone else. No big deal, I can wait my turn. Well, after helping that customer up he disappeared in the back for a good 10, maybe even 15 minutes, not even acknowledging my presence. While he was in the back, two more customers walked in. When he finally came back out into the show room, he helped both of those customers without saying a single word to me, still not acknowledging that I was even there. After letting both of those customers cut in front of me and taking care of them, he locked the door and turned the open sign off after they walked out. I'm still standing there; still not getting any help whatsoever. Finally, after a few more moments of silence he finally greeted me, but not with a friendly smile and a "how can I help you". It was more so a "what do you want/need...?"
Got helped by linda. Very rude. Insulted mine and my girlfriends tattoos. When she mentioned vibram i said can it be resold she said yes of course. Then when i tried on a pair i asked how they resold them she said oh they can't resole those. Then told me they can resole one pair of vibram... she sounded somewhat knowledgeable. Dualy not i was trying on multiple styles to decide want i wanted and the 3rd pair i asked to try on she scougged at me and made it out to be an inconvenience. I have been buying boots there for 6 years and always been pleased But today I left with a sour taste in my mouth. And to top it off she is the store manager.
Disillusioned, caught off guard, & feeling rushed, I asked him to wait a moment while I looked something up on my phone. I discovered that there was another company store in Cedar Rapids, so I told him not to worry about it that I would just go to that store since it was closer to where I lived and I left. He didn't try to stop me, he didn't try to help me in any way. This sales associate basically stopped a $300 sale from happening and rushed me out the door!
