I work for them so I am biased.
Worked there for 8 and a half years. The job was interesting and varied but there is a very high turnover among employees and drivers.
The owner of the company is a very nice person and will talk to anyone down to the guy who cleans toilets on a first name basis, however I don't feel he has complete control or knowledge of how his management team operates and some of the practices as to how employees are treated. Some department heads will do or say anything to appear efficient and have no qualms about throwing lower level employees under the bus to save their hides and avoid taking responsibility for their lack of skill.
I enjoyed the job in itself and have many good memories but what I would call abusive business practices has left a very bad taste in my mouth and resulted in my seeking employment elsewhere. I cannot recommend this company as a prospective employer and their actions have left me in a precarious financial situation where i am may possibly lose my home, vehicle, self respect and dignity. I feel I've wasted the past years of my life working here to suddenly be treated as a disposable commodity even though I have worked the longest when everyone else has jumped ship-that's loyalty there.
Hate this place. Was supposed to be home for hometime this Thursday for an urgent family emergency and came in Monday to pick up trailer and then the lady says I look like I'm under the suspicion of something and have to do a random D and A testing. Still stuck here, but if not out by Thursday morning, I will clean out my truck, get a rental car, and drive home for my family situation, even when I have told them a month in advance.
Rarely is an employee allowed to complete their two weeks notice because they realize that they cant intimidate you with losing your job. Mid level management has an attitude that they are perfect and hourly employees are nothing but inept assets to be disposed of at their leisure. Basically its a typical attitude in a state that favors employers and gives employees very little if any rights or job security.
This trucking company is to big for their pants. You don't fire some one unless you have proof of what they are being accused of. You don't go by what you was told by a guard. You get the proof. Then you can show they my they are being fired for. The only thing this company has that is good is their trucks and that's it. The I strange is not that great either.
I was frequently called upon to perform work that should have been left to professionals yet because of my skills I was assigned the work yet paid barely half of what professionals would have been paid for similar results. I was complimented many times having given my best to the company and shown much dedication to them, however do something they dont like or request advancement and you are suddenly pushed out the door as has been witnessed with many past employees.
Good company
The company management has a very high view of themselves yet will not take responsibility for their faults or lack of leadership. The people are great to work with but if you get on their bad side they become petty and biased and have problems lashing out at employees. A common trick is to hold back necessary information to perform a job and when things go wrong, its thrown at you and you are made to feel as though you are always at fault. Another thing, if you breach any companies policies no matter how small and insignificant, it is kept on file and then thrown at you later as justifications for their actions.
Raises and promotions are handed out with an eye-dropper among hourly employees but for exempt employees they are somewhat abundant mostly through attrition with constant promotions at corporate headquarters. Satellite terminals are left to become antiquated even the one that makes more money than any terminal within the companies realm namely a 50 year old building that is basically rusting and falling apart. The physical environment is dangerous at times to employees and drivers and in plain violation of OSHA guidelines and legislation.
